In 2019 I and a few small businesses owners decided to open a little pop-up store in Melbourne’s west. Falling in love with the local brands, the great product selection and the awesome people that came through those doors we decided to keep going and open another only to be met by covid lockdowns ☹. Having worked in ecommerce for 7+ I jumped online with an idea to create a marketplace during lockdowns for independent brands. Despite a whole lot of challenges of being self-funded and building something from scratch I started Kouwi.com a marketplace for independent brands and beyond in August of 2020 with 12 vendors and a humble 100 products.
Today after following my passion, a lot of hard work, and using all means to scale, Kouwi.com has become a multi-faceted marketplace with +100 vendors across Australia and 14,000 items in 8 categories: Australian Health & Wellness, Fashion, Home & Lifestyle, Kids, Pets, Home Audio and even local coffee and we’re still growing.
I look at that picture every day, it’s the screensaver on my phone and a reminder to follow your heart, think bigger, challenge yourself and celebrate all the wins no matter how big or small they may be.
